The AI price war is officially on — and if you're building, this is your moment.

Anthropic just dropped Claude Haiku 5.5 at $0.10 per million input tokens, matching OpenAI's GPT-6 Luna head-to-head. A year ago, this level of performance at this price point would have been unthinkable.

Here's my take: we're entering the commodity layer of foundation models.

Frontier labs are no longer competing purely on capability benchmarks — they're competing on cost, reliability, and developer experience. That's a fundamental shift.

What this means for builders and operators:

  • Margins on AI-native products just got healthier
  • Switching costs between models are collapsing
  • The moat is moving up the stack — toward UX, data, and workflow integration

The real winners this cycle won't be the labs. They'll be the companies smart enough to build durable products on top of increasingly cheap intelligence.

Are you repositioning your AI roadmap accordingly?
