The Age of the Agent Is Here — And Most Companies Aren't Ready

Microsoft's Copilot overhaul isn't a product update — it's a declaration that the chatbot era is over.

The chatbot era is officially over.

Microsoft just rebranded the entire future of work. Satya Nadella's Copilot overhaul — weaving together Office, coding tools, and autonomous agents into a single 'OS for work' — is one of the most significant platform moves I've seen in years.

This isn't an incremental feature drop. It's a signal that AI is graduating from 'answer my question' to 'go execute my strategy.'

And OpenAI's new Decisions API — built specifically to manage swarming agent behavior — tells you everything. When you need infrastructure just to control your AI agents, you're no longer in chatbot territory.

Here's my take: most enterprise leaders are still optimizing their prompts while the industry is busy building autonomous systems that will make that skill irrelevant.

The companies that win the next 18 months won't be the ones who used AI the most. They'll be the ones who redesigned their workflows around agents first.

Are you building for the agent era — or still catching up to the chatbot one?
