The FTC Is Coming for AI — And That's Actually Good News
The FTC subpoenaing OpenAI and Anthropic isn't a threat to AI innovation — it's the forcing function the industry desperately needs.
The FTC just subpoenaed OpenAI and Anthropic. Here's my take: good.
I know that's not the popular founder opinion. But hear me out.
We're at a moment where frontier AI models are being deployed at massive scale, and the safety protocols governing them are still largely self-reported. That's not a foundation anyone should feel comfortable building on — not enterprises, not investors, and frankly, not the AI companies themselves.
Regulatory scrutiny, done right, creates clarity. And clarity is what unlocks serious institutional capital, enterprise adoption, and long-term trust.
The companies that will win the next five years aren't the ones that outrun regulators. They're the ones that build compliance into their architecture early and use it as a competitive moat.
AI is not too important to regulate. It's too important not to.
Founders and operators — start treating regulatory readiness as a product feature, not a legal headache.
